Most accidents happen when least expected and in the blink of an eye. These days, as roadways across Maryland become more crowded, the biggest question is not if an accident is going to happen, but when. Unfortunately, traffic accidents are one of the leading causes of personal injury in the United States today. Being involved in an accident can greatly alter a person’s life and, in some cases, end it.
Accident on road shoulder
A recent accident in Berlin sent one woman to the hospital with serious injuries. The accident happened along Route 50 near Friendship Road during the evening hours. According to reports, a family of five was traveling in their vehicle when the driver pulled the vehicle over to the shoulder of Route 50. Reports said the mother exited the vehicle to get something out of the trunk and was struck by another vehicle that was turning onto Route 50.
Authorities said the woman suffered serious injuries to her legs and was treated at the scene. Reportedly, she was flown to a local medical center for further treatment and required multiple surgeries. The drivers of both vehicles were also taken to the hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, reports said.
Every day across the state of Maryland, roads are becoming more crowded, congested and hazardous. Although precautions can be taken to reduce the likelihood of an accident occurring, most accidents are unpredictable and often unavoidable. Those who have suffered personal injury or loss due to negligence in an accident could benefit by contacting an experienced lawyer. A successfully litigated claim could result in financial relief to help victims and families get through this challenging experience.
