A head-on collision is often the deadliest type of motor vehicle accident. These types of crashes are often caused by motorists who mistakenly drive on the wrong side of the roadway. Even though head-on collisions only account for a small number of the total crashes that happen in Maryland, they have a higher chance of being fatal.
Details of a deadly wrong-way accident
A recent crash in Prince Frederick appeared to be caused by a driver who was headed the wrong direction. The accident happened at night on Maryland Route 4 near Wood Acres Court. According to reports from witnesses, a sedan was traveling north in the southbound lanes of Route 4. Reports said the northbound sedan collided head-on with a southbound SUV.
Authorities said the driver of the SUV was badly injured and was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. Tragically, the driver of the sedan was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Police noted that alcohol may have contributed to the accident.
