Motorists are at risk any time they venture out onto roadways across the United States. Traffic accidents seem to be increasing with each passing year. Fortunately, the vast majority of accidents are minor and nothing more than inconveniences. However, some traffic accidents prove to be fatal. Recently in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, a man lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run accident.
Hit-and-run
The incident happened during the evening hours at the intersection of Campus Way and Central Avenue. Reports said a minor car accident had occurred at the intersection and two drivers were outside of their vehicles exchanging information. According to investigation reports, a vehicle that was traveling through the intersection struck one of the pedestrians and then fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Tragic death
Tragically, the man that was hit by the vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene, authorities said. The accident is being investigated by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. Police are still searching for the driver who fled the scene and are urging anyone who has information about the incident to contact them.
Being involved in a serious accident is often traumatic. However, when the person at-fault flees the scene, the experience can be absolutely devastating for victims and families. Families in Maryland who have suffered the loss of a dear loved one due to the negligence of another party have the right to consult a skilled litigator and file a wrongful death claim in civil court. A successfully litigated lawsuit could provide much-needed compensation to help families pay end-of-life expenses and recover financial losses.
